Research Memo 2

What causes does obesity have while you have obesity and over time effects of obesity? I changed my research topic because I could not find any answer to my question before in which was which of the causes of obesity impact teenagers the most. Throughout my research in looking at these articles, I got that diabetes type 2 is normally an adult disease but is becoming much more common in teens today (Article 3). I also found out that the when you get obesity there is a chance that you could have breathing problems as well as sleeping problems (Article 1). One long-term affect is that you could get dementia (Article 4). Dementia is a disease where you forget what commonly used things that you use on a regular basis are used for. Once you are obese, I found out that it is hard to get a person to get healthier and start going in the direction to getting healthy. I found this out by finding out that when you start to eat too much that your brain starts wanting to keep eating more and more (Article 2). This often leads to depression however, because people start getting self-conscientious about their weight but cannot lose the weight because of the habit they have of eating all that food.

Children who have diabetes should exercise at least sixty minutes each day, as well as normal children too. (Article 3) If everyone exercises then we should not be having trouble with people getting obese.

This chart shows that 33% of all people in America are obese.

This chart represents how much people in each group are obese out of all the people like them. (According to Article 3.)

Research Memo 1

Obesity in America

Hypothesis: What are the affects of obesity on people’s lives in America? I think people will answer this question by saying that people should not pay for healthcare that are obese, that teenagers are the group most affected by obesity and that out of all the technology TV has the greatest affect to make people obese. People will say that emotions and depression causes people to be obese and that obesity is a problem that we should not have to worry about according to what I think.

Context: My target audience was teens and experts on the topic. The target audience that was chosen is because of the number one group that most people are getting obese in.  Experts on this topic were chosen because I wanted to get there opinion out there.  My results are reliable because everyone so far is being completely honest with their thoughts. The information might be a little biased though because people are taking this as a concern we should not be worrying about and saying that if they want to be obese they can be obese.

Affects of Technology Towards Obesity

Affects of Personalities on Obesity

Data Analysis: Throughout my whole survey I have found three big main points. The first main point I noticed throughout my survey is that that everyone said that TV has cause people to be obese. People may have responded this way because you are not really exercising when you are watching TV. The second main point that I saw throughout my survey was that none of the female thought that drugs caused obesity. My female respondents probably responded this way because drugs cause many different things to happen to people. Finally, the third main point that I saw throughout my survey was that all the female’s respondents said that emotion was a big factor that caused obesity and that all the male respondents said that depression was a big factor that caused obesity. The female respondents probably responded about emotion because emotion makes people want to eat more especially if they are sad or mad about something and is just deciding to eat their problems away. On the other side though my entire male anonymously said that depression was a big factor that caused obesity; this is probably because depression makes you sad and that they just eat their problems away.

Conclusion: What are the affects of obesity on people’s lives in America? My hypothesis was correct because most people did say that, most people should not pay for healthcare that are obese, that teenagers are the group most affected by obesity and that out of all the technology TV has the greatest affect to make people obese. I can conclude that obesity is caused by people who are most likely more affected by emotion and use the more new technology. I have come to this conclusion because of what people have answered in my survey. People have said that emotions and depression are the most likely to make people obese so people who are more moody are probably more likely to get obese. As well as, people who are always watching TV.

Follow Up: The question I should logically follow up with in research memo 2 is which of the causes of obesity impacts teenagers the most? In research memo 2 I hope to explain how you would know if you are obese, or just a little chubby. I would also like to explain which impact most affects teenagers the most. As a result of research memo 1 I have decided not to change any my research questions yet.

Questions

The five questions that I have most about obesity are: How do you know if you are obese or just a little fat? People say that they do not necessarily know the difference between being fat and being obese and I feel I should find the right answer to this. Do you know what the short and long term affects are if you are obese? There are a lot of affects on obesity and I want to help inform everyone on what those issues are both short term and long term. Should there be laws that help inform healthy information? I was wondering this question to and I think it would be interesting to find out if there should be laws to inform people of healthy eating choices and habits. Why are one-third of all kids in America obese? That is an overall big percentage and I hope to find out why it is such a big number. These questions I hope to find out the answer too and I will inform you too about the answers to these questions in all the possible points of view that I can find about this topic.

My Background Story

How do you know if you are obese or just a little fat? Do you know what long term and short term affects there are on obesity? There once was a young little boy who was perfectly healthy and was very energetic. By the time he was 8 though he started to eat a lot and stayed up half the night. When he got to be 10 he skipped breakfast and started to gain weight. He said to himself Oh it is only a little weight. Then two years later he began to have to get bigger sized clothing and was not as energetic as he was before. His personality had changed from being so energetic and happy about his life to being extremely depressed. He kept getting fatter each month. The effects of obesity dramatically started affecting him. He got diabetes when he was 15 and had to go to the doctor for medicine and help. He did not take the help and got fatter. By the time he was 30 he had a heart attack. He weighed over six hundred pounds. He did not live much longer and died due to too much fat in his body. There are many affects of obesity on your life and these are just a few of them. We should all take into account the affects of obesity.
